John Madden has been a name associated with pet care in Galway since 1992 when he completed his training as a dog groomer. Now almost 20 years in the industry, he has developed his business from a small one man operation into a very successful pet care company where he currently has four other staff members. Each and every staff member are working towards John’s goal to become the best pet care company in the west of Ireland.
The Dog Company was formed in March 2007 when John took over his parents boarding kennels business, which is situated in Woodstock on the N59 three miles from Galway city. Here, the boarding kennels were merged with his busy dog grooming business. The grooming parlour was renovated and a bright and warm reception added to welcome all clients, new and old. In addition John also saw the opportunity to open a retail section which stocks all of your dog’s basic requirements, from food, coats, collars, leads, healthcare & grooming products, and much much more.
In the boarding kennel section of the business there are 13 purpose built kennels, all of which have infra-red heating. Every dog is walked twice a day seven days a week. All food, water and bedding is supplied unless of course a client prefers to bring their dogs own bed.
The Dog Company’s grooming parlour is one of the busiest in the country dealing with 3,000 dogs a year with people travelling from Ulster, Leinster and Munster. Currently, there is one full-time qualified groomer working for The Dog Company with a third person in training with John. The Dog Company van which is well known around Galway provides a collection and delivery service for the city and surrounding areas.
The Dog Company is a member of the Irish Boarding Kennels & Cattery Association. All I.B.K.C.A. members have their boarding kennels inspected on an ongoing basis to make sure that they are up to the standard required by the association as well as all dog and cat lovers. If you are considering kenneling your
dog you should ask if the kennel in question has I.B.K.C.A. membership.

Due to numerous requests from clients as well as a genuine passion for pet care, John is in the process of designing and establishing a cattery which is going to be built to F.A.B standards. The designs are nearing completion and the cattery should be up and running in the first half of 2010.
