Congratulations on your new arrival!
Owning a puppy should be fun, but all owners should understand that early training is essential. Here are a few tips to deal with common puppy problems.
Jumping Up
This is normal puppy behaviour, but not one to be encouraged. Avoid giving puppy any attention when he jumps up. The use of a CLIX Puppy House Training Line or a long lead attached to his collar will allow you to easily guide him back to the floor (without the reinforcement of your attention) where he can be rewarded.
Chewing
All puppies chew, it’s what they chew that is important. Re-direct this normal behaviour by providing puppy with safe durable and fun toys. Stuffing a KONG is great for keeping puppies entertained, and can help during that difficult teething stage.
Biting / Mouthing
Can be a painful and annoying habit, often unwittingly encouraged by play fighting. All games with puppy should be with a toy, never hands or clothes. Offering a toy to puppy during greeting will also help to save your fingers! Never smack him, this is just likely to make him bite harder.
Noise Phobia
Many common behaviour problems can be prevented by sensible early training. Leaving a radio on or a TV can help to familiarise you dog with sudden load noises i.e.: gun fire, fireworks, traffic etc. Also try hoovering your floors while the dog is in the house as this can sensitise your dog to loud noises .
